The essential guide to organic wines from Savoie

What is organic wine?

An organic wine is the result of a dual requirement: viticulture without synthetic chemicals and vinification that respects the living world. In Savoie, this means cultivating vines in harmony with the Alpine terroir, without herbicides or pesticides, and vinifying with strictly limited inputs, in accordance with European specifications (Eurofeuille label).

A wine can only be called "organic" if it is certified by an approved organization (Ecocert, Bureau Veritas, etc.) and clearly displays its logo on the label. This guarantee of authenticity guarantees the consumer complete traceability, from vine to bottle.

Why choose an organic wine from Savoie?

Choosing an organic Savoyard wine means choosing a wine:

  • from environmentally friendly mountain viticulture,
  • produced by winegrowers committed to an ethical approach,
  • often more expressive and digestible, thanks to a reduced sulfite level,
  • which authentically reflects its terroir.

Typical grape varieties such as Mondeuse , Jacquère or Altesse reveal all their freshness, fruitiness and character when they are cultivated without artifice.

How to recognize an organic wine?

An organic Savoie wine bears one of these two logos on the label:

  • the AB logo (organic agriculture – France),
  • or the Eurofeuille logo (organic – European Union).

If these mentions are absent, even an ecological speech is not enough: it is not a certified organic wine.

Is organic wine better?

An organic wine is not necessarily a great vintage, but it is always the result of more demanding work . The final quality depends on many factors: grape variety, terroir, vintage, winemaker's know-how... but organic vinification promotes a purer expression of aromas , greater digestibility and often, an absence of headaches linked to excess sulfites .

Does organic wine keep well?

Absolutely, provided that the classic storage rules are respected: stable temperature, darkness, moderate humidity... Like all wines, an organic wine can improve, or not, depending on its nature (keeping or immediate pleasure) and the care taken in its production.

Organic Mondeuses, for example, often gain in complexity with 2 to 5 years of rest in the cellar.

Why is the Originel range from Cave de Cruet unique?

With our Originel collection, we wanted to highlight the purest that Savoyard nature has to offer: authentic, certified organic wines, vinified with care , which accurately reflect the typicality of our grape varieties. Each vintage is an invitation to rediscover the taste of the terroir, without compromise.
